Power Restoration — Update 10 8 p.m.

Dafter, Michigan —Cloverland Electric Cooperative reports approximately 600 outages as of 8 p.m. Cloverland Electric line crews, along with 21 mutual aid crews from across Michigan, and nine tree-trimming crews, will continue working late into the evening before stopping for a mandatory eight-hour safety rest. Crews will resume operations early Sunday morning.

While the overall number of outages continues to steadily decline, outage counts will likely fluctuate throughout the weekend as a clipper system is forecasted Sunday. “We are watching the weather closely. What happens in the next 12-24 hours could impact our progress and when power is fully restored, says President and CEO Mike Heise. The National Weather Service forecasted earlier today that 15-25 mph winds and an additional 2-10 inches of snow is possible across our region.

The crews continue to work diligently to complete restoration. The co-op expects to have nearly all services restored late Sunday. However, as nearly 40 poles are broken and need to be replaced in the East Lake area, restoration of that circuit will more than likely carry over into next week. Sunday afternoon Cloverland will review the impact of the next weather system and evaluate the continued need for the mutual aid crews.

Those who depend on electricity for medical equipment should continue with their emergency back-up plans for alternate sources of power or alternate lodging. Members with unmet, non-emergency needs should call 2-1-1.

If using a portable generator during an outage, members are reminded to never operate a generator in an enclosed area or fuel it while it is running. For the safety of our line crews, never connect generators directly to your home’s wiring. A special transfer switch installed by a licensed electrician is required to prevent the reverse flow of electricity onto the power lines.

Cloverland Electric reminds the public to stay safe and stay clear of downed power lines and report them by calling (800) 562-4953 or local law enforcement agencies. Those with access to Cloverland Electric's website and Cloverland Electric’s Facebook page can stay current on restoration efforts and the latest updates available. However, the co-op reminds its members not to use Facebook or other social media platforms to report outages, post service addresses, or other account information.
